Hobbling painfully on crutches, Anthea Turner displays the determination that once made her television’s golden girl.

The 48-year-old former GMTV presenter – who shattered her kneecap last week after being kicked by a bucking horse – struggled to get out of a black Range Rover driven by her husband Grant Bovey.

She was returning to a hospital close to the couple’s £5million Surrey estate for an outpatient appointment on Thursday after undergoing reconstructive surgery on her knee last Tuesday.

Despite failing to master her crutches, she still managed to look elegant in a blue and white embroidered kaftan, flip-flops and designer sunglasses.

This is the second time Anthea has been injured recently.

Last year, she broke a metatarsal bone in her foot after she tripped while she was rehearsing the one-woman show based around her BBC3 series Perfect Housewife and had to hobble around in a cast dubbed the Beckham Boot, named after the former England football captain who had a similar injury.

Anthea shot to fame in 1992 in the children’s TV show Blue Peter, then co-hosted GMT with Eamonn Holmes.

She presented the first National Lottery draw in 1994 and took over from Judith Chalmers on Wish You Were Here? More recently, she has presented The Perfect Housewife and Help Me Anthea, I’m Infested on BBC Three.

Since her accident, she is believed to be taking a break from filming and is resting at her home in Dunsfold. She is also having regular physiotherapy to get her mobile again.

Her agent Michael Joyce said: ‘She was riding on Monday evening when a rider’s horse in front of her bucked, striking Anthea’s knee.

'She went to Guildford Nuffield Hospital and an X-ray confirmed Anthea’s patella had been shattered. She had reconstructive surgery on her knee on Tuesday.

‘She had to go through physio, but she’s doing fine. I’ve had a meeting with her and she’s still able to get around. She’s having a quiet family weekend.’
