Wayne Rooney opted for dessert on the go after a romantic dinner with his new wife Coleen McLoughlin last night.

The football star was spotted sucking a lollipop with rather a lot of gusto as he emerged from Chinese restaurant Wings in Manchester.

The 22-year-old is known to have an insatiable sweet tooth.

In 2003, then just a baby in football terms, he was famously photographed sucking on a giant lollipop while holidaying with Coleen in Spain.

The 22-year-old now has the phrase 'Just Enough Education To Perform' scrawled across his left forearm in a tribute to his favourite band, Stereophonics.

It is the title of the band's 2001 album, and a line from their track Mr Writer, a rally cry against the press.

The Welsh rockers performed at Rooney's Italian wedding - a £5 million affair covered by celebrity weekly magazine OK! - last month as a surprise gift from his bride.

And there is yet another project on the cards for Coleen - starting a family.

She said last month: 'I’ve always said if I fell pregnant it would be great.

'I don’t know about straight away but definitely in the future.

'Wayne’s always wanted children.'

The Manchester United star added: 'I’d like three of four if we could.'

A Chinese restaurant? I'd have thought that far too sophisticated for his palette, perhaps they do omelette and chips for children.
