Updated 18:10pm on 11 Jul 2008

Jermain Defoe was involved in an off-pitch scrape last night as the car he was travelling in hit another vehicle causing significant damage.

The Portsmouth striker was heading back from the Black Ball in London with a mystery brunette when his chauffeur tried to make a quick getaway and accidentally hit the back of TV presenter June Sarpong’s Bentley.

Defoe and his companion stayed inside the car while the driver sheepishly apologised.

Sarpong, 31, appeared unimpressed by the incident and also stayed in the car as the two drivers aired their grievances before both parties drove off.

Defoe previously dated model and disgraced celebrity Big Brother star Danielle Lloyd.

The 24-year-old model was left heartbroken after the England striker allegedly cheated on her with kiss-and-tell model Sarah Giggle.

He was also briefly engaged to Charlotte Mears last year.

Sources say he unceremoniously dumped her in favour of Danielle, asking her take all of her belongings out of their Hertfordshire home and then changed the locks so she couldn't get back in.

Sarpong and Defoe were among a number of stars who turned out for the event in London to raise awareness of the African AIDS epidemic, including former O.C star Mischa Barton, singer Alicia Keys, Russell Brand and actress Jennifer Hudson.

All proceeds went to the Keep a Child Alive charity which was founded by Keys.
