Melanie Griffith has long been a study in perils of cosmetic surgery - and now more so than ever.

The actress' 'trout pout' looked almost fit to burst as she arrived at a the New York launch of her husband Antonio Banderas's new fragrance, Blue Seduction for Women.

Her skin looked pulled taut across the cheekbones while her forehead bore the line-free trademarks of Botox, culminating in an altogether peculiar look.

Miss Griffith has in the past admitted having collagen injections in her mouth and is believed to have had a face lift in her quest for a youthful appearance.

Antonio recently lamented the lack of film roles on offered to his wife, who turned 50 in August.

He told the LA Times: 'My wife Melanie is one of the most important comedic actresses in America but Hollywood sometimes can be extremely cruel with women as they age.'

Changing face: The actress' appearance looked stranger than ever

'It may seem a little harsh to say this, but this town is like a factory that needs fresh flesh, and once actresses become 40 or 50 they are forgotten.'

'That's the opposite of Europe where actresses like Simone Signoret are respected as they age and work until they die.'

Melanie recently landed voice work on an upcoming film, Around the World in 50 Years 3D, and is rumoured to be starring in the upcoming comedy Sweet Baby Jesus.

Antonio also added he would warn the couple's 11-year-old daughter off a career in Hollywood.

He said: 'I would listen to her questions and give her advice but I wouldn't want Stella to become an actor today because it's a very difficult and complex profession.

'The ups and downs due to the pressure in Hollywood can really be painful and a lot of young people can't face the challenges and can lose their minds.'
