Jordan and Peter: 'We're ready to adopt from a Third World country'

Updated 15:16pm on 14 Jul 2008

Celebrity couple Jordan and Nineties pop star Peter Andre look set to follow the lead of a growing number of stars by adopting from the Third World.

The glamour girl is currently eager to add a disabled foreign child to her family.

She was spurred into action after being reduced to tears by a recent BBC 4 documentary, Bulgaria’s Abandoned Children, which depicted shocking scenes of cruelty and suffering among disabled orphans in the former Communist state.

Jordan, aka Katie Price, pictured here with husband Peter Andre and children Harvey and Princess Tiaamii, plans to adopt a disabled child from the Third World

The 30-year-old already has two children with 35-year-old Andre: Junior, three and Princess Tiaamii, one. The couple are also bringing up Harvey, the autistic and partially blind six-year-old son of Jordan and footballer Dwight Yorke.

Particularly moving for the couple was the fact that disabled children in Bulgaria are rarely able to find adoptive parents: “No one wants them,” the model told The Sun newspaper.

If they go through with a plan, the couple could face an 18-month wait as legal issues are resolved. Nonetheless, determined to give a disabled orphan “a better life”, Jordan has consulted a lawyer with a view to joining the likes of Madonna and Angelina Jolie among the ranks of celebrity adopters.
