One-month WAG marriage: Soccer star Chopra 'splits from wife just weeks after £250,000 wedding'

Naming Friday the 13th as the date for your wedding could be seen as tempting fate.

It has certainly proved unlucky for footballer Michael Chopra and model Heather Swan.
Within hours of tying the knot last month, their marriage was on the rocks.

And yesterday Miss Swan, who starred in the ITV2 show WAGs Boutique, told friends they had split up.

She has already kicked the Sunderland striker out of the £1million home they shared with their five-month-old son.

Splitsville: Michael Chopra and Heather Swan, pictured last autumn, are reported to have split after just a month of marriage

Just four weeks ago the pair, both 24, spent £250,000 on a wedding at Orchardleigh House, a luxury hotel in Somerset. They exchanged vows in front of 200 guests at a chapel built on an island within the 550-acre estate.

The aisle was strewn with white rose petals and lined with glowing glass candles.

Champagne flowed all night and there was the customary angel shaped ice sculpture gushing vodka.

But at breakfast, 30 overnight guests at the Victorian stately home witnessed the newlyweds openly arguing with each other.

The two, who had dated for seven years, continued to bicker on their honeymoon. They remained together for the Italian leg of the holiday, but Miss Swan spent the second week  -  in the Caribbean  -  on her own.

A source close to Chopra, who earns £30,000 a week, said: 'Heather is absolutely devastated by the collapse of her marriage.

'She thought they would be together for ever. Instead they had their first argument 24 hours after the ceremony and fought like cat and dog in Capri. They were booked into Barbados's Sandy Lane hotel for the second leg of the honeymoon, but in the end Heather went alone.

'When she returned to England, she asked Michael to leave the marital home. Then she went and stayed with her parents.

'She is now back at home while he is staying 14 miles away in rented accommodation.

'Michael is hopeful of a reconciliation, if for no other reason than for the sake of their young son.'

Happier times: The couple, who have a five month old baby son Sebastian, pose before their wedding

Miss Swan, who has a diploma in musical theatre, spent months planning her wedding.

She told OK magazine: 'Michael isn't the hottest at organising, so I didn't trust him to do it.'

Guests at the purple and black themed bash included Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi. Michael Owen and Alan Shearer were invited, but unable to attend.

Chopra, signed from Cardiff City for £5million last summer, was born in Newcastle to an English mother and Indian father.

Last season he became the first player of Indian parentage to score in the Premier League.

Since returning from his ill-fated honeymoon, Chopra is said to have had several boozy nights out in his home city.

He and Miss Swan went to the same bar opening on Saturday night, but arrived and left separately and stayed apart all evening.

Yesterday Miss Swan used the intercom of their home near Morpeth in Northumberland to say: 'I would rather not comment.'

Also asked why the pair were living apart, Chopra said: 'I've still got my wedding ring, haven't I?'

A spokesman for Sunderland Football Club made no comment.
