Oh my darling Clementine: Ethan Hawke's new wife gives birth to a baby girl

Updated 02:13am on 24 Jul 2008

Ethan Hawke and his new wife are celebrating the birth of their first child together - a baby girl called Clementine Jane.

Exactly a month after their secret wedding, Ryan Shawhughes delivered a healthy baby girl in a New York City hospital last Friday, the actor's publicist confirmed.

The couple announced Shawhughes' pregnancy in January, declaring they were 'thrilled' by the upcoming arrival.

Earlier this month, Hawke confirmed reports he had married Shawhughes in a low-key ceremony in New York on June 18th.

The marriage was the second for Hawke, who was married to Uma Thurman for eight years before divorcing in 2004.

Hawke, 37, and Thurman, 38, have two children together - daughter Maya Ray, ten, and son Levon Roan, six.

Hawke first met Shawhughes when he and Thurman hired her to be their nanny, although he has always maintained their relationship didn't blossom until after he was divorced.

Speaking in 2006, acclaimed actor and author Hawke admitted fatherhood was his greatest achievement.

He said: '(My children are) the greatest pleasure in my life. It's the only role that, if I fail, I will consider my life a failure.

Other celebrities who have named their daughters Clementine includes supermodel Claudia Schiffer and Hollywood actress Cybill Shepherd.

Meanwhile, Hawke's ex Thurman recently announced her engagement to businessman Arpad Busson - ex-partner of supermodel Elle Macpherson.
