Where's Elton? David Furnish enjoys a day out with the boys

Updated 14:53pm on 28 Jul 2008

With Sir Elton John still in the throes of a tour in Las Vegas, David Furnish got a jump start on their summer holiday by sailing with friends in St Tropez yesterday.

The filmmaker had plenty of good company on hand, including Italian fashion designers Valentino and Roberto Cavalli, as well as another unlikely addition - singer Kid Rock.

The high-profile party sunbaked aboard the deck of a luxury boat before Furnish, 45, broke off for a ride across the waves on a jet-ski.

But Sir Elton is expected to join in the fun soon enough.

He will jet straight to St Tropez next week after wrapping up a string of shows at Caesars Palace on August 1, his spokesperson confirmed.

On song: Kid Rock, never short of female attention, was also aboard

The singer, who has sold 250 million records worldwide, is expected to take more than a month off before resuming his tour in Canada.

The couple, who entered a civil partnership in 2005, recently raised more than £10 million with their now famous annual White Tie And Tiara Ball.

Over 600 guests - including Liz Hurley, 43, and Elle Macpherson, 45 - paid £3,000 to attend the AIDs charity bash at the 61-year-old's Windsor mansion.
