Dubliners out and about in the Irish capital today could be forgiven for thinking they'd seen a ghost this afternoon.

Dressed in full 16th century costume, Jonathan Rhys Meyers looked totally out of place as he stepped out of a silver Mercedes in Dublin town centre.

The 31-year-old actor is reprising his role as British monarch Henry VIII in the upcoming third season of his TV series The Tudors.

After taking time out to grieve the loss of his mother Geraldine Meyers-O'Keeffe, Jonathan returned to Dublin on Wednesday for the first day of filming Series Three.

Dressed in gold wedding finery, Jonathan entered Christchurch Cathedral, as he prepared to film the marriage scene between Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour.

Henry VIII announced his engagement to Anne Seymour in May 1536, one day after he had his second wife Anne Boleyn beheaded, and the pair married 10 days later.

Anne Seymour died in October 1537 following childbirth complications when giving birth to Edward VI.

Haha, who on earth is Anne Seymour? It's Jane Seymour!

You're right that JRM doesnt look like Henry VIII but I think they're trying to get the point across that Henry wasn't the fat old man most people think of. He didn't get fat until he was older. In his younger days, he was an incredibly attractive, tall, athletic man that women went wild over. He was the 16th century equivalent of David Beckham.

Id rather have Henry Tudor over David Beckham any day!

I think Jonathan is a very sexy and fabulous actor - but it just isn't convincing casting with him playing our most iconic, big tubby ginger former monarch!
