Posh: 'I'm not like other WAGs. I'm not lazy and I don't sponge off my husband'

Victoria Beckham has taken a remarkable swipe at wives and girlfriends of other England football stars – saying they’re content to sponge off their husbands instead of carving out their own careers.

In a clear dig at the glamorous young WAGs who enjoy lavish lifestyles without holding down jobs, Victoria insists that her success, her high profile and her bank balance are all down to her own hard work.

She says: ‘I’ve always been driven. I’m a worker. I’ve never been given anything on a plate.

No sponger: Posh insists she's not like other WAGs, who don't have jobs and spend their husbands' money

‘That’s why I was different from some of the other footballers’ wives. It never really interested me, that lifestyle of spending your husband’s money.’

In her interview with Allure magazine, Victoria, 34, says she loves America because it has accepted her as a fashion designer. She adds: ‘I’m not sure I would have been given the same opportunities in Britain.’

Maybe 'Anon' is Posh herself. Can't imagine why anyone else on the planet would argue that she is a 'career woman' - hilarious!

Ladies, ladies (Helen and Anon) you are behaving like WAGS!

There is no dispute that Posh has earned her own dosh. (When she first met David she was by far the wealthiest) and regardless of her success at it - she has constantly tried to carve out a career. She is hard-working (and hard work!).

I think the press give her an extremely hard time no matter what she does. But she is right she does fund her own lifestyle.

I happen to think she is a bit of a donut but fairs fair gals!

Anon, you are even sadder making snide comments anonymously.

- Helen, London, UK

Helen, you are so sad. I can see the green from here.

- Anon, UK

"Career"? Good grief, the lack of self-awareness is remarkable. If it weren't for her husband's name she'd be just another failed pop waste of space. Fashion designer? I don't think so.
