First pictures of Brad and Angelina's newborn twins - and they already look like mum

Updated 10:25am on 5 Aug 2008

Well, looking at the lips it’s pretty clear who the mother is.

This is the first photograph of Angelina Jolie’s three-week-old twins and all the signs are that Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon have inherited at least one element of their mother’s remarkable looks.

Even more remarkable is the frenzy surrounding the first pictures - a frenzy that has driven up their price to more than £7.5million.

Hello! magazine bought the rights to the first pictures for a reported £7.5million in what is the most expensive baby deal ever

Miss Jolie, 33, and Brad Pitt, 44, sealed the world’s most expensive magazine deal when they agreed to the pictures being taken at their chateau in the south of France.

Not that the twins seemed fazed as they seemingly snoozed through the photo-shoot.
Miss Jolie, however, told Hello! magazine that her six-strong brood was a challenge.

‘It is chaos but we’re managing it and having a wonderful time,’ she said. ‘Of course we aren’t getting much sleep, though there is a point in the day when four out of the six are asleep. And that’s the best time to nap.’

Recalling the birth, she added: ‘I knew that like all twins they’d be premature, so when I saw they were big and screaming with healthy lungs I was at peace.’

The fraternal twins weighed just 5lb each when they were born on July 12 in Nice.

Knox Leon arrived first followed a minute later by his sister.

Pitt, who cut the umbilical cord, said the birth was ‘absolutely heroic’.

He revealed Jolie is breast-feeding the two babies and has been attempting to feed the two at the same time.

He said: 'We try to get them to eat simultaneously for the sake of time management, but it gets a little crowded at the bar.'

The twins join the couple’s three adopted children, Maddox, seven, Pax Thien, four, and Zahara, three, along with their biological daughter Shiloh, two.

Miss Jolie said: ‘We do manage to make time for each child. With six kids it takes up the majority of the day!’

Pitt, who denied the babies were conceived by IVF, said the couple had ‘burst into hysterics’ when told they were having twins.

‘We didn’t see this one coming,’ he added.

And he said his new daughter already had her mother’s personality and grace while his son Knox liked music like him.

All the money raised by the pictures, which appear in People and Hello! magazines, is to be donated to the Jolie-Pitt children’s charity.

The issue has already been flying off the news stands and is expected to enjoy record sales.

A sales assistant for a WH Smiths in central London told Mail Online: 'The issue has been selling really well. Every other person who comes in is buying it.

'Usually people buy Heat or OK! as well but today it's been mainly Hello!'

The couple's first biological child, Shiloh Nouvel was born in Namibia in May 2006.

Pictures of her were sold to Hello! for £2million, which the couple donated to charity.

A magazine insider said: 'This is one of the publishing sensations of the decade - Brad and Angelina are the dream couple of the glossy magazine world and we expect to triple our circulation because of the public's fascination and interest in the couple and their children.'

Once the world's most expensive baby pictures, the stakes were raised last year when the first images of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's twins Max and Emme went for a bank-breaking £3million.

I think it is amazing what they are doing with their family... they seem to be genuinely nice people trying to make a difference in this world. We could all learn a thing or two from them.

With so many children they are going to need a bus to drive around town.

I run a mile when other people want to show me photos of their babies. And they don't even ask me to pay.
