The spin-off series of Beverly Hills, 90210 has been a long time coming, but if these sneak pictures are anything to go by, it'll be as glamorous as ever.

With its title shortened to just 90210, the new show will again follow the adventures of a group of rich wild kids as they attend the fictional West Beverly High School and lead enviable social lives.

The original programme ran from 1990 to 2000 and turned Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty and Luke Perry into instant stars.

It remains to be seen whether actors Tristan Wilds, Shenae Grimes, Dustin Milligan, Jessica Stroup, Ryan Eggold, AnnaLynne McCord and Michael Steger will be as well-known after 90210 premieres on U.S. TV channel The CW on September 2.

Like the original 90210, the spin-off revolves around a family with two teen kids the same age - a boy and a girl - who recently moved from the Midwest to Beverly Hills.

But this time, the dad, Harry Mills, is a former Beverly Hills High student who moved after graduation and settled in East St. Louis.

He is forced to come back when his 1970s movie star mother's alcohol problem gets out of control. Joining him are his wife, Celia, a former Olympic medalist; biological daughter Annie; and adopted son Dixon.

The wild kids of television's West Beverly High will have a guidance counsellor familiar with the posh ZIP code's dating, drugs and drama.

Original star Jennie Garth will have a recurring role in the spin-off show as Kelly Taylor, who is now the school's guidance counsellor.

And actress Tori Spelling - who starred as Donna Carter in the original, which was produced by her late father Aaron - has made it known she'd love to be in the new show.

Spelling recently claimed it was her father's wish to see the hit show make a comeback: 'It was always my dad's dream and intention to make a new 90210 before he passed, so I know he is proud and he would be even more proud if I were a part of it' 

Jason Priestley also expressed an interest in returning as Brandon Walsh, while a US website launched a campaign to persuade Shannen Doherty to reprise her role as his twin Brenda.
