Tragic: Children's TV presenter Mark Speight

Rolf Harris led the tributes to tragic children's TV presenter Mark Speight at a memorial service yesterday.

Speight hanged himself in a building near Paddington railway station in April, just months after his fiancee, actress Natasha Collins, died in a drugs-related incident at the couple's flat.

Harris joined family and friends of the tormented star at a service at St Paul's Church in London's Covent Garden.

Among the stars at the service were Zoe Ball, Timmy Mallett and ex-EastEnder Lucy Benjamin.

Speight's co-host on the BBC program SMart., Kirsten O'Brien, was also in attendance, along with his best friend Stu Goldsmith.

Harris, who worked with Speight on a Trafalger Square art project, sang his song Sun Arise in memory of the presenter.

Tearful Harris said: 'It was joyful to work with Mark.

'I realise now that I never told him how much I appreciated his programmes.

'You realise you should always tell people what you think, you should tell them you love them because it might suddenly be too late.'

The memorial saw the launch of a foundation set up by Speight's father Oliver in honour of his son.

His 42-year-old son hosted the popular children's art show SMart for 14 years before stepping down following his fiancée's death.

Collins was found dead in the bath of the couple's flat in St John's Wood, north west London, in January.

The 31-year-old had taken a cocktail of cocaine and sleeping tablets and suffered hot water burns covering 60 per cent of her body.

Mr Speight was initially arrested on suspicion of murder and supplying class A drugs but no charges were brought.

Friends said the incident left Mr Speight reeling and he went missing on April 7, just days after the inquest into his fiancée's death.

Despite appeals from his family he failed to make contact and his body was discovered six days later in a building adjacent to Paddington station.

Hundreds of well-wishers attended his funeral in April.
