Under fire: The captain of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas's yacht was fined after he failed to notify immigration of who was on board.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and her husband Michael Douglas are in hot water after breaching Italian immigration laws during a Mediterranean cruise.

The Hollywood couple were on a luxury yacht that berthed without permission on the Italian Riviera after sailing in from the South of France.

The captain of their £1million yacht, which was flying an American flag, had not reported who was on board and was fined £1,600 by coastguards.

The incident took place at Santa Margherita Ligure, where Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin were married in June.

Coastguard Pietro Micheli said: ‘The laws have been toughened up and all captains should be aware that they are supposed to inform us of the names of those taken ashore.

‘In this case the captain did not inform us and as a result he was fined.’

The couple started off at the south of France last month and have been travelling through the Med with a group of friends.

Their two children Dylan and Cerys have been noticeably absent, presumably remaining at their home in Bermuda with family.

Michael and Catherine, who have been married for over seven years, are enjoying a well-earned break after both filmed a string of movies over the past year.

The actor has a completed a succession of films due out for next year, including The Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past and Beyond A Reasonable Doubt.

Meanwhile, Catherine recently wrapped romantic comedy The Rebound and has another three projects lined up, including a biopic of late Hollywood bombshell Lana Turner.
