Don't get Vertigo up there! Bono gets a lift from his high heels

Updated 18:18pm on 11 Aug 2008

Diminutive rocker Bono reached new heights yesterday as he and his wife stepped out in equally high shoes.

While Ali Hewson opted for a pair of black wedges, the U2 frontman matched his wife in height thanks to his stacked brown shoes.

Standing level to each other, the happy couple showered each other with kisses.

The pair are holidaying on the French Riviera - where they have a home - with their four children Jordan, Memphis Eve, Elijah and John.

After sailing 100km down the coast from their holiday home in Eze down to St Tropez, the couple brought their two teenage daughters for a taste of Riviera social life at the upmarket beach Club 55.

After enjoying a lavish lunch, the family were keen to be back at sea again and quickly returned to their yacht.

Standing at 5'6 5ins, it is perhaps understandable why the Vertigo singer, 48, thought he needed to enhance his height.

Dressed rather inappropriately for a hot day in the sun, Bono looked sweltering in his usual rock star uniform of black jeans and shirt.

His wife of 26 years also opted for a dark look in a black satin dress and cardigan.

Meanwhile, their 19-year-old daughter Jordan looked much more colourful in a fashionable maxi-dress.

Leaving her long hair flowing down, it appears Jordan is growing up a beauty just like her mother.

Her younger sister Memphis Eve, 17, was equally trendy in a knee-high pair of gladiator sandals, which she teamed with a bandeau top and denim shorts.

Both teens looked like their sojourn on dry land had interrupted a music-listening session as they both wore oversized earphones around their neck.

Over the weekend, the Hewson family sailed to Portofino, Italy, which has hosted Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas, Valentino, Jennifer Lopez and Oprah Winfrey in recent weeks.

Last week, Bono entertained Cindy Crawford, her husband Rande Gerber and their pal George Clooney at his hilltop villa in Eze.

Bono's place has become a popular haunt for celebrities in the area and both Brad Pitt and Robert De Niro recently took their families there.
