It looked like Matt Lucas's marriage could be on track again after his partner Kevin McGee appeared to be moving back into their marital home.

The pair announced they were to divorce in June, having married 18 months earlier in a lavish ceremony.

They were said to have spent the last six months of their relationship apart while Matt filmed the American version of Little Britain in Los Angeles with David Walliams.

Yesterday Kevin had a broad smile on his face as he moved a large suitcase and several bags back into their London home, sparking speculation their relationship was on again.

A divorce would make them the first gay celebrity couple to split since the law was changed two years ago to allow same sex wedding ceremonies.

Matt, 34, and TV producer Kevin, 31, insisted at the time that their split was amicable. They were pictured together on several occasions after making the announcement.

The pair married in a modest civil partnership ceremony, but celebrated with a lavish pantomime-themed reception where Matt dressed as Aladdin and Kevin was Prince Charming. Guests at the Banqueting House in Whitehall included Sir Elton John  -  as Captain Hook  -  and Courtney Love.

Matt and Kevin moved into their Marylebone home just before the ceremony and had been together three years before tying the knot.

It came as a shock when they released their statement in the middle of June, which read: 'It is with sadness Matt and Kevin announce their relationship has come to an end.

'Their separation is amicable.'

Matt is said to have lost a stone and a half in the run-up to their break-up, which many believed was down to their enforced separation while he was in LA.

A spokesman for Matt Lucas said today that Kevin had no plans to move back in permanently and that the plans for a divorce were still going ahead. What a great shame.
