Paris Hilton sued over 'failing to publicise' flop movie

Updated 00:38am on 14 Aug 2008

She is notorious for jumping in front of cameras at every opportunity.

But now Paris Hilton is being sued - for not getting enough publicity.

The makers of a film in which she appeared say it flopped after she failed to carry out the 'reasonable promotion and publicity,' that was part of her £500,000 contract.

Worldwide Entertainment Group, the company behind National Lampoon's Pledge This!, is now demanding £40,000 back.

Miss Hilton played the president of an exclusive university club in the 2006 comedy and was also credited as executive producer.

Miss Hilton has appeared in several forgettable low-budget films such as Bottoms Up, The Hottie & the Nottie and House of Wax.

Her next project is a musical called Repo! The Genetic Opera and another TV reality series is said to be on the way.

Neither Miss Hilton nor her manager was available to comment on the court claim, lodged in Miami.

Paris took the film to the Cannes Film Festival in May 2005, but soon announced she had boycotted the premiere of the movie after arguing with producers over the amount of nudity in the film.

Hilton was quoted as saying: 'I took the part on the assurance I wouldn't do any nudity. I wanted to do something where I'd be taken seriously, and they added a load of scenes with naked girls.

'I was so angry I snubbed my own premiere.'

By October 2006, Hilton appeared to have calmed down and attended the low-key  U.S. premiere in Chicago before the film went straight to DVD.

Two versions of the film were released on DVD - the original and an additional unrated version which features topless girls - although Hilton keeps her top firmly on.

Filing suit at the U.S. District Court in Miami, (where the movie was filmed) Worldwide Entertainment Group Inc said they paid Hilton $1million for  her 'acting services' and for 'reasonable promotion and publicity'.

The comedy caper also starred Australian actress-turned-pop star Holly Valance and Carmen Electra.
