Princess Eugenie gets top grades in her A-levels

Updated 01:43am on 15 Aug 2008

Princess Eugenie has officially become the brainiest member of the Royal Family by scoring two As in her A-levels.

The 18-year-old daughter of the Duke of York gained her top grades in art and English literature as well as a B in history of art - just pipping her sister, Beatrice, who despite battling dyslexia, managed an A and two Bs last year.

The Princess' proud parents, the Duke of York and his former wife Sarah, Duchess of York, said in a joint statement: 'We are delighted by Eugenie's achievements. She has worked extremely hard towards these justifiably fantastic results.'

Princess Eugenie passed three A-levels, achieving the top grade in two of her subjects

Eugenie, who studied at Marlborough College, the £23,000-a-year boarding school in Wiltshire, plans to take a gap year like her elder sister, Beatrice, before going to university.

The fashion-mad teenager could even become the first member of the Royal Family to take an art foundation course.

Her results come weeks after the fun-loving princess - who is sixth in line to the throne - was given a dressing-down by staff at the public school for celebrating the end of her exams by stripped off naked and dancing in the grounds with friends. There were suggestions they had been drinking.

The York girls have proved to be brighter than their Wales cousins.

Prince William scored ABC before going on to study geography at St Andrews while his younger brother, Harry, scraped just a B and a D.

Four decades ago, Prince Charles managed to get into Cambridge with a B and C while his sister, Anne, gained only a D and an E.

Eugenie's last formal engagement saw her give a reading at the wedding of her cousin Peter Phillips - the Queen's eldest grandson - to Canadian Autumn Kelly in May.

She must be relieved to get 2 'A's, it will ensure that she is able to get a good job and support herself then?

Aye right!
