Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was surrounded by dancing girls as he went backstage after watching a musical in New York. 

The actor, 19, caught the closing night of A Chorus Line at the Schoenfeld Theatre on Broadway yesterday during a trip to the Big Apple.

He will be performing there himself in November, at the Broadhurst Theatre, when he reprises his role as troubled Alan Strang in Equus.

According to reports in the US, Radcliffe's Broadway debut - which will again see him baring all on stage - has forced a delay to the filming of the next Harry Potter instalment.

But the studio behind the franchise insists the delay to Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince was to enable it to take advantage of a free slot in the summer schedule.

And fresh from stripping off onstage in the London production of Equus last year, Radcliffe said he is ready to bare all for the final Harry Potter film.

The actor wants to appear naked in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - if the script demands it.

The release of the sixth Harry Potter film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been delayed until next summer.

Meanwhile, filming of the Deathly Hallows is due to begin in the Spring, after Daniel finishes his Broadway run in Equus.

At its climax the ghost of Hogwarts Headmaster Professor Dumbledore appears to Harry as he hovers between life and death after a killing spell by Lord Voldemort.

And in the dream sequence his mentor explains to the boy wizard how he can defeat the powers of evil.

Radcliffe said he re-read JK Rowling's book in preparation for the start of filming and made the surprising discovery that Harry is naked during the scene.

He said: 'At first, I thought I had pants on. Apparently not.'

And the actor confessed he was willing to play the part nude.

With bravado, he said: 'Bah, I've sort of done that. It's all old hat now, really.'
