Lean on me: Jade's ex Jack takes her to Harley Street doctors as she prepares for cancer battle

Updated 16:20pm on 22 Aug 2008

Jade Goody was comforted by her ex-boyfriend Jack Tweed today as they visited a consultant to discuss options for treatment for her cancer.

The visibly distressed reality TV star held Jack's hand as they visited several clinics in London's Harley Street.

After starting off the day at her local hospital Princess Alexandra in Essex, Jade and Jack ventured into central London to visit some of the country's top cancer experts.

English reality television star Jade Goody is pictured leaving her consultants in Central London after a meeting.

The pair  went to see a cancer specialist as soon as Jade, 26, arrived back in Britain from the Indian Big Brother house, her spokesman Mark Thomas confirmed.

Jack put his arm around Jade as they walked to the front door of her gated detached home in Upshire, Essex. And a distressed Jade put her hands up to her face and ignored questions about her health from waiting reporters.

Thomas said: 'She's seeing a specialist. There's no more to say at the moment. She is talking to her consultant'.

She returned back home from the meeting with her consultant crying and visibly distressed.

Jade was driving her silver Bentley car with Tweed in the passenger seat.

A neighbour, who refused to be named, said: 'I saw her go out at about 7am this morning with Jack - who hasn't been living there for quite a while now.

'I asked how she was, but Jade just gave a courteous smile. Jack said "she is OK, thanks" and that they were going to the hospital.'

The pair have remained friends despite their two-and-a-half year relationship ending over Jack's alleged cheating.

Jade has two children with former partner TV presenter Jeff Brazier.

A source said: 'She looked extremely upset and was crying. She didn't say anything and seemed a bit dazed.'

He added: 'I can't imagine what she is going through. To have cancer is one thing but to find out in such a public arena must be unbearable.'

Today on GMTV Shilpa Shetty paid tribute to 'the new Jade' and said she genuinely recognised the change in the Big Brother housemate who had previously racially abused her in the Celebrity version of the reality show.

She told GMTV: 'I was genuinely able to see the change in her, and I'm not just saying that because of the news that she cancer.

'It was really great to see how much calmer she was.

'I responded to her the way she responded to me, and it was only warm.'

Shilpa added: 'I wish her well, and hopes she gets better soon. It's so sad for someone so young to be diagnosed with such a dreadful illness.'

On Monday Jack said at the house, immediately after getting back from London Heathrow Airport:

'To be honest, she is fine. She is obviously upset. But all she wants to do now is go to sleep.

'It's completely devastating but we don't want to talk now. Jade is all over the place.'

Jade told Reveal magazine last week that she knew she might be diagnosed with cancer before she went to India to take part in their Big Brother equivalent show.

She picked up a reported £100,000 to participate in the Indian programme called Bigg Boss, presented by Shilpa Shetty, who Jade was accused of racially abusing in last year's British Celebrity Big Brother show.

Jade has two children, Bobby, five, and Freddie, three, who are currently being looked after by family and friends.

Shilpa, 33, said: 'I was really sad when I heard Jade has cancer.

'My prayers and wishes are with Jade and her family as they face one of the biggest tests of their lives in times ahead.'

An 'upset and frightened' Jade was seen arriving back in the UK last night after her brief appearance on the Indian version of Big Brother when she was given her test results.

The mother of two flew into London's Heathrow Airport after a seven-hour flight from Mumbai, India last night.

Looking tired and drained the visibly upset Goody told airport personnel escorting her through the terminal: "I don't want any more, I can't do this."

She broke down in tears as she was met by a number of photographers and left the airport through a private exit.

The 27-year-old, who made her name on Big Brother in the UK, was a contestant on Bigg Boss 2 when she was called to the Diary Room to speak to her UK doctor.

He told her the results of a recent biopsy taken after a series of recent mystery collapses. Goody has reportedly given her consent for the footage to be broadcast to viewers on the show.

She broke down in tears and sobbed to housemates as she revealed she'd received some 'bad news' and that she had to leave the house.

Scenes showing her telling her housemates the news and leaving the house were aired in India last night.

Devastated: Jade breaks down in tears in the Bigg Boss house in India after receiving a private call in the Diary Room which confirmed she has cancer

The 26-year-old  was told the bad news by a specialist from the UK who was patched through to the Diary Room to speak to her

On hearing the news she was immediately withdrawn from the programme and returned home to Britain for treatment.

A close friend told The Sun last night: 'She was called into the Diary Room and spoke to her agent and then her consultant in the UK.

'She just burst into tears, ran out and said to housemates ‘I have cancer’.

'Jade was then led out of the house and she is coming back to England to see another consultant. She is completely devastated.'

Her spokesman Mark Thomas said: 'It is pretty obvious that she was looking forward to her time in the house but her health is the first priority and she is flying back for treatment and more tests.'

It is not known which form of cancer she has. It is not clear whether she has womb or cervical cancer but the latter is far more common in women under 35.

Jade bids goodbye to housemates after it was revealed that she has cancer

Jade had entered the Bigg Boss house after undergoing tests at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Essex following her third cancer scare and following four mystery collapses earlier this month.

Despite awaiting her test results, the reality star proceeded with her trip to India because she needed the money to support her two sons.

In an interview with Reveal magazine, which took place just two days before she flew to India, Jade admitted her fears.

She said: 'I know going to India sounds crazy, and a lot of people will criticise me for it, but I have to pay my bills. And if I do face cancer, I need to make sure I can support the boys.

'It's really hard not knowing what is happening. I'm trying to block it out and not to get too depressed.'

Having taken tests earlier this month she decided to go ahead and take part  in the show to try to make amends for the race row with Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.

Jade agreed to appear on the Indian show in a bid to repair her reputation following accusations she racially abused Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty

In the celebrity version of the UK show, she racially abused Shilpa, calling her 'Shilpa Poppadom'. Shetty has since expressed her sadness at the news.

'It is unbelievable how life is so unpredictable and finds a way to distract and derail you from your plans.

'My prayers are with Jade (and) her family in this hour, when they face one of the biggest tests of their lives, in times ahead.'

Miss Goody's spokesman said: 'She is devastated. It is a terrible thing to be told you have cancer.

'She broke down while she was on air and told some of the other housemates she had some bad news and had to go home.

'When I spoke to her she was very upset, frightened and I tried to reassure her as best I could.

'It looks like her cancer is at an early stage but we will have to wait until she gets back to Britain and sees a specialist and has more tests.'

Celebrity publicist Max Clifford told GMTV: 'The most important thing is to get her back with people who care for her.'

It is her third such cancer scare, following tests for bowel cancer in 2006 and ovarian cancer in 2004.

On those occasions she was given the all clear.

When she collapsed at the start of August she was seen being pushed around in a wheelchair by her ex-boyfriend Jack Tweed.

If someone is facing results of tests for cancer (or any illness) surely they are better to carry on with their plans/life rather than put there life on hold?
As Jade was in the diary room when she was given the news, I expect she was in a stake of shock, and not thinking clearly and thats why she went back into the Big boss house.

Truth or not aside for the moment (and compassion regarding a cancer diagnosis, etc), it is interesting to compare this story with that of Kerry Kantona. Taking both at face value, Jade appears to have a much more admirable attitude towards paying her bills and safeguarding the financial future of her children. Also interesting to note the 'take' personna of Kerry's beau compared to the 'give' of Jade's ex.

I know who I'm likely to feel more sympathy for.

To suggest this might be a publicity stunt is lower than low the poor girl has two small children to bring up and I don't think she's that desperate to lie lets hope its at the early stages only. Get well soon jade and be strong your children need you xxxxx

If this is a publicity stunt, then you have to be thankful that she is not ill, but she will have to deal with the ramifications.

Ms J Eccles - when I was told of my cancer diagnosis, I was told by my GP at the reception area!

Sorry, but I am qualified to speak on this illness and trained consultants do not indulge in behaviour like this when dealing with test results and second when awaiting results you turn up at the oncologist in person you don't jet off to India to do "reality tv" shows .
Ms Goody has a very grown up illness she better now start and grow up herself and remove the pound signs from her eyes, sadly this is one club no one wants to be a member of!

More headlines, more column inches, she'll probably even wangle another TV series out of this. Am I the only one who thinks the timing of all this is just a bit convenient?

There are so many different types of cancer and although cancer should not
be taken lightly some types are worse than others. Some require drastic surgery and intensive treatments and some can just be lasered out without
to much pain and suffering.

Erm! Perhaps it's the cynic in me, but me thinks something's strange! I remember when news broke in April '07 of Prince William's split from Kate. My instinct told me it wasn't true and that this was just a cover to keep the media at bay and give them breathing space for a while. After all, how could two people so genuinely 'in love' and good friends, just split up so suddenly after no apparent cooling down period and following many high profile outings?
Again, my instinct tells me that the whole timing of Jade's new situation(s) is strange. Not to say that she doesn't truly have cancer, or a scare but I feel that the way the publicists' and now the viewers are rallying around her, 2 mins after they were totally slagging her off just seems ever so convenient!
Let's just say that bad news in one sense for her to hear such devastating news, but good news in that at least she doesn't have to spend oodles of time, holed up with those poppadom eating Indians. (Not my view, simply referring to her cry of "Shilpa Poppadom!")
My how the media can raise people and lower people. It is a dangerously powerful and misleading tool.

I can't believe that she went there knowing that she could get some results back like this? Also why would a respected doctor tell her in this way? It sounds like another publicity stunt but I hope her people around her haven't stooped that low...she seems to have some strange people around her that care more about broadcasting her bad news to the world before they actually know the full extent of the situation, than they do about getting her home and dealing with something like this privately.

She wasn't told live on TV, she was told via telephone in the diary room. I don't understand why she didn't leave straight away instead of going back into the house.

Regardless, Jade will probably have to have a hystectomy now and face never having any more children.
