So Miss Cheeky, why DID you swap Lembit for this well-heeled hunk?

Updated 23:06pm on 21 Aug 2008

She tried the whole 'opposites attract' thing last time, and it didn't turn out too well.

So this time, Gabriela Irimia has chosen a man with whom she seems to have slightly more in common.

The Cheeky Girl, 25, was spotted out on a date with handsome Manchester businessman Nicholas Zapolski.

In with the new: Gabriela Irimia with Nicholas Zapolski

It is just a month since she broke off her engagement to the middle-aged Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik.

Like her, Mr Zapolski is 25, tanned and toned. And unlike Mr Opik, who has voters to impress, he can go out partying with her in London nightclubs.

The pop singer met Mr Zapolski last week on a holiday in Marbella with her twin sister Monica.

Mr Zapolski, who hails from upmarket Alderley Edge, Cheshire, is a director of property company Land and Estates.

Gabriela takes shelter from the rain under her new man's umbrella and shows him her appreciation

Gabriela and Lembit

Out with the old: With Lembit Opik in July

He and his friend Jordan Assassa accompanied the twins on a night out at the Mahiki club on Wednesday.

As the evening drew to a close, he and Gabriela shared a passionate kiss outside.

Mr Zapolski tried to shield their faces with a battered straw hat, but to no avail.

The Cheeky Girls' mother and manager Margit Semal seemed delighted that her daughter had moved on from her politican boyfriend.

She said yesterday: 'Gaby did not go out clubbing for almost two years when she was with Lembit.

'They went once and it looked bad for him because of what he does.

'She wants to have some fun now.'

And it seems unlikely Mr Zapolski will engage Gabriela in the type of intellectual debates she apparently shared with Mr Opik.

His Facebook page states that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the only book he's ever read.

Ham it up? Get some glasses, the look like drag queens.

In years to come people will look back at this media circus filled with clowns and (with eyes rolling) laugh out loud.
