French movie star Jean Reno has denied reports he has suffered a heart attack while holidaying in the Caribbean.

Reports suggested the Leon actor had been airlifted to an intensive care unit, but his publicist insisted he was 'fine and healthy'.

The Da Vinci Code and Mission: Impossible actor, who has just turned 60, was staying at the holiday home of Gallic pop star Johnny Hallyday with his wife Zofia in St Bart’s when he was hospitalised on Wednesday morning.

His publicist Christina Papadopoulos told People magazine: 'Reports that actor Jean Reno is in the hospital due to a heart attack are false.

'He is vacationing in the Caribbean and went to a local hospital as a precaution for some discomfort he was feeling due to heartburn and gastroenteritis.

'It was definitely was not a heart attack. He is fine and healthy and enjoying the rest of his vacation travelling in the Caribbean.

'I think he was just enjoying vacation and probably ate a little too much spicy Caribbean food.'

Reno, who was born in Morocco of Spanish parents before adopting French nationality in his late teens, is one of the few actors who have made the transition from French cinema to Hollywood.

Other major films in which he has starred include Léon and The Professional.

Hallyday, who is often described as the French Elvis, and French president Nicolas Sarkozy were best men at Reno's wedding in July 2006.  Reno currently has homes in Paris and Los Angeles.
