After Katie Holmes faced a barrage of criticism for wearing the same outfit ten times in in two weeks, it seems the actress has had the last laugh.

Proving to Katie that persistence really is the key to success, fellow actress Jennifer Aniston slipped into a pair of her own yesterday as the boy jeans trend appears to have finally caught on.

Dressed casually in boob-tube and flip flops, Jen clearly doesn't need a man to indulge her, popping into a jewellery store on her way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Perhaps the actress was making a celebratory purchase in honour of her newly-single status.

Unlucky-in-love Jen appears to be taking her recent break-up in her stride as she seemed relaxed.

Unfortunately though, the same could not be said for her ex, John Mayer.

The singer was spotted at Nobu restaurant last night - just two days after Jen dined there herself.

It looks as though he has yet to come to terms with the split as John cut a far more sombre figure, dressed in black and sporting a shaved head.

The 30-year-old guitarist and the actress, 39, separated a week ago amid reports that Mayer couldn't commit to the relationship as much as the actress would like.

Speaking for the first time about the break-up, the musician confirmed he ended their romance to 'be alone' and that infidelity had nothing to do with the split.

Mayer told reporters outside a New York City gym: 'There's no lying, there's no cheating, there's no nothing.

'People are different, people have different chemistry. I ended a relationship to be alone, because I don't want to waste somebody's time if something's not right.'

And Mayer clearly holds his ex in high regard.

He added: 'Jennifer Aniston is the smartest, most sophisticated person I think I have ever met.'
