Ray Winstone dons 70s moustache for new U.S. police drama

Updated 17:26pm on 23 Aug 2008

No, it's not Ray Winstone at a 70s themed party. It's the British actor on the set of his latest role where he plays a tough-talking New York police officer.

The 51-year-old Beowulf star was pictured shooting scenes for new HBO series Last of the Ninth, the latest offering from NYPD Blues creator David Milch.

Set in 1972 in a financially and morally corrupt New York Police Department, Winstone stars as Detective John Giglio, a tough cop who begins to mentor a young Vietnam veteran (Jonah Lotan).

The pilot was written by Milch and Bill Clark and Carl Franklin is directing.

The show is scheduled to air later this year.
