Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Metcalfe has been caught up in a shooting at a nightclub in Spain.

The 25-year-old, who plays Mercedes McQueen in the soap, was partying with friends at the Nikki Beach Club near Marbella when two men – thought to be British – were shot in a fight.

Witnesses said a group of friends, believed to be from Liverpool, exchanged blows with another group of men before shots were fired.

They also attacked each other with broken bottles.

‘It was absolute pandemonium,’ one witness said. ‘People ran for their lives.’

Metcalfe fled the club in tears as the victims were taken to hospital early yesterday.

One of them, a 42-year-old, needed surgery to remove two bullets from his legs.

Police have not released details of the other man who was shot.

Metcalfe has enjoyed an on-off relationship with Liverpool footballer Jermaine Pennant.

She has also been linked with rapper Kanye West.

Nikki Beach is popular with sports celebrities who flock to the resort each summer.

The shooting is the second in two days in the area. Irish drugs boss Peter Mitchell survived an assassination attempt on Thursday when a man opened fire on him and two other men at a bar near Puerto Banus.
