Tom Cruise takes Katie and Suri for a 'Top Gun' helicopter ride in Manhattan

As handsome Maverick he set pulses racing across the globe in the 80s hit Top Gun.
But as he headed back into the sky yesterday Tom Cruise was playing a different role - that of doting father to his adorable daughter.
The actor treated two-year-old Suri and wife Katie to a helicopter ride above Manhattan.

Globe-trotting Suri took the trip in her stride, covering her ears to block the noise of the whirling blades.
She smiled happily as her father carried her and a handful of teddies across the helipad.

And although it is more than 20 years since Tom appeared in Top Gun he reprised the iconic look which made his character a hit. Dressed in denim jeans, blue t-shirt and dark shades the 46-year-old looked at least a decade younger.
