He once sang 'I am an anarchist...', representing the anger youths felt about the British establishment in the 1970s.

Fast forward to 2008, and Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon appears to have become more gentrified in his middle-age.

Onlookers at Lurgashall Village Green in West Sussex could be forgiven for doing a double take yesterday as the punk legend donned traditional country garb for a new TV ad.

Hot around the corner: Johnny Rotten looks uncomfortable in his country garb as he films an ad for County Life Butter

The native Londoner, who grew up on a council estate in north London, looked like a fish of a water as he poses uncomfortably in a tweed jacket, plus fours and a yellow waistcoat.

The 52-year-old's country squire outfit was a far cry from his usual outfit of jeans and a ripped t-shirt.

Despite his Lord of the Manor ensemble, Johnny Rotten's punk persona was still evident thanks to his messy, dyed red spiked hair and multiple ear piercings.

Lord of the Manor: Lydon hangs out with a beer-swilling local

Lydon spent two hours yesterday larking around with local morris dancers and their fellow countrymen on the village green for an advert for Country Life Butter.

The I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! star happily supped the local bitter and chain-smoked as he chatted to the villagers in between filming.

One villager said: 'It all looked very jovial. Johnny drank a few pints, smoked a few fas and had everyone in stitches.'
