Funny woman Victoria Wood smiles through the pain as she shows off her broken foot

Victoria Wood smiled through the pain yesterday as she hobbled along the street with a broken foot to meet a friend.

The 55-year-old - who split from husband Geoffrey Durham in 2002 - shared a joked with her male companion at a coffee shop in London and even took off her cast shoe to show him the full extent of her injury.

The comedienne, who once tipped the scales at 18 stone, has kept up her slender frame after losing more than nine stone three years ago.

She later revealed that she had finally settled into a healthy lifestyle and was visiting the gym four times a week after years of compulsive eating and crash dieting.

'I used to make my own food and ate on my own in my room.

'I'd eat from the minute I got out of school until I went to bed. I was an obsessive eater.

'I used food as a drug, a distraction. I was on slimming pills at 12,' she said during an interview with Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.

Nonetheless she credited her childhood turmoil for helping to develop her comedy skills.

'I did a lot of observing,’ she says. 'The good thing about being isolated is you get a good look at what goes on.

'I was reading, writing and working at the piano all the time. I was doing a lot of other things that helped me to perform.’
