Landlord dreams: Arctic Monkeys Drummer Matt Helders is to open his own pub

British rockers Arctic Monkeys are joining the ranks of celebrity landlords by buying a pub in their hometown.

Matt Helders and former bassist Andy Nicholson have invested in an empty property in Sheffield and are set to build their own watering hole named The Bowery.

"It'll be like going to your favourite local boozer, but in the centre of town," the musicians claim on their website.

"The Bowery will be a hang out for people who want to avoid the meat market nonsense of city centre bars."

The former band mates will officially open the pub on September 20, with the Arctic Monkeys rumoured to be playing at the event according to The Mirror.

‘Matt and Andy have had their eye on setting up a pub for ages.

'When the property came on the market they had to have it,’ a source is quoted as saying.

'It's perfect, Matt puts in most of the money and Andy can DJ there and manage it when Matt is off touring.

'All the boys can relax their and bring their friends to jam.'

The Sheffield band shot to stardom in 2005 after their single I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor hit number one in the UK charts.

Their album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not then became the fastest-selling debut in chart history, shifting more than 360,000 copies in its first week.

The band achieved their success through fan-made demo tapes and online file sharing and were heralded as one of the first acts to come to the public attention via the internet.
