In the film she's in Italy to promote, Anne Hathaway plays the spitfire sister of the bride. But as she paraded down the red carpet at the premiere of Rachel Gets Married she looked every inch the wedding belle in an over-the-top ballgown.

The cascading waves of her asymmetrical silk chiffon gown wouldn't have looked out of place walking down the aisle.

The layered ruffles and oversized flowers in sea greens, blues and greys highlighted the actress's statuesque beauty, while her gold sandals exaggerated her height.

Anne accessorised with a classic brown leather clutch, chunky gold chain and cocktail ring, and wore her brunette hair slicked back.

But despite her bridal dress there is little chance of the 25-year-old tying the knot any time soon.

Regal wave: Anne looked like a bride in her flouncy silk chiffon gown

Anne recently had a highly publicised break-up with Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri.

They split in June after four years, shortly before he was arrested on fraud charges.

But as she made her red carpet entrance at the Venice Film Festival tonight there was no hint of any upset.

A composed Anne dazzled the crowd and joined her fans to sign autographs.

Anne charmed photographers with her Hollywood smile

And the Devil Wears Prada star even took the camera from one lucky woman, snapping a picture of the two of them together.

Anne's large smile charmed the photographers, who called out at her to pose for them.

But instead of monopolising their attention she pulled scriptwriter Jenny Lumet over to join her in the limelight, giving her a kiss on the hand.
