Everyone has their off day, even the well-groomed Tilda Swinton.

The glamorous British actress revealed a painful-looking bunion on her swollen left foot as she arrived at the Late Show With David Letterman in New York today.

Perhaps Tilda rubbed her toes wearing countless pairs of high heels in Italy, where she has been working hard at The Venice Film Festival.

The 47-year-old mother-of-two was there to promote her new film Burn After Reading, which she stars in with Brad Pitt and George Clooney.

She strolled down the red carpet in a selection of glamorous dresses, teamed with sky-high heels.

But despite their impressive appearance perhaps the designer shoes weren't that comfortable - Tilda is now resting her feet in her flat sandals.

I happen to work for an orthopaedic surgeon in Hong Kong who is probably the only surgeon in the world who does a special bunion surgery that requires absolutely no breaking of any bones at all. He has done more than 400 cases with excellent functional results. All his patients are allowed to wear high heels 6 months after surgery if so desired and so far without recurrences after 18 years.
