Updated 16:06pm on 5 Sep 2008

Christina Applegate was seen out for the first time since revealing her heartbreaking decision to have a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Wearing a white vest top, trendy scarf and jeans, the brave star of film Anchorman and TV series Married With Children was seen leaving a nail salon after an afternoon of pampering.

The 36-year-old has kept a low profile following the major surgery last month. And despite the trauma, blonde Christina looked the picture of health.

In a television interview in August, the actress revealed she had now beaten the disease after opting for the drastic surgery, and would be having reconstructive surgery over the next eight months.

She said: 'I'm going to have cute boobs 'til I'm 90, so there's that. I'll have the best boobs in the nursing home. I'll be the envy of all the ladies around the bridge table.'

Christina, who found fame in the early 1990s playing teenager Kelly Bundy in Married... With Children, said she had witnessed her mother Nancy battle the disease.

Low profile: The actress made a rare public appearance since revealing the news of her battle with breast cancer

The actress has been getting regular mammograms since the age of 30 due to her family's medical history.

She said: 'My decision, after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical and the one that was going to work for me was to have a bilateral mastectomy.'

'I didn't want to go back to the doctors every four months for testing and squishing and everything. I just wanted to kind of be rid of this whole thing for me.'

Other celebrities to have beaten breast cancer include Kylie Minogue, Sheryl Crow, Olivia Newton John, Sopranos star Edie Falco, Anastacia and Lynn Redgrave.
