Gary Lineker is to marry his girlfriend Danielle Bux – and has bought a £2.65million mansion as their marital home.

The Match Of The Day presenter proposed to underwear model Danielle, 18 years his junior, a month ago and she accepted immediately.

Last week she was photographed wearing a diamond engagement ring on a night out in London.

And yesterday Lineker’s agent confirmed that the ex-England striker, worth an estimated £30million, had proposed saying: ‘Yes, that is correct, they are engaged.’

A friend of the 47-year-old former footballer said: ‘They didn’t want to make a big announcement, they’re just looking forward to planning a special ceremony.’

Lineker met Danielle on a blind date just a year ago, after he divorced childhood sweetheart Michelle, the mother of his four sons, following a 20-year marriage.

Two months ago Danielle, 29, insisted: ‘It’s too early to say whether we’ll have kids or get married.'

The couple’s new home is a six-bedroom, five-bathroom mansion in Surrey’s footballers’ wives belt.

Neighbours say the couple have installed a gym that takes up the whole of the 800sq ft top floor of the three-storey property.

The luxury house was advertised by estate agents John D. Wood as being in a ‘secluded setting’, about half a mile from Esher.

Land Registry documents show that the couple bought the house on May 27, and neighbours say they moved in a few weeks later.

The property, which was built after fierce local opposition, features a double garage and a modest garden. It is at the end of a long drive, with security cameras trained on the entrance.

The full asking price was paid in cash – showing that Lineker has yet to feel the effects of the credit crunch.

The BBC pays him £1.5million a year to present Match Of The Day, the Open golf championship and the Ryder Cup, and he has been rewarded handsomely for advertising Walkers crisps for the 13 years since retiring from professional football.

Lineker is selling his three-bedroom bachelor pad flat, less than half a mile from his new home, although the falling property market means he will lose between £150,000 and £400,000 on it.

He paid £2.1million for it in January 2007, and last week it was on the market at £1.95million.

The blow to his pocket will be eased by his girlfriend’s contract with La Senza to model lingerie for women with larger busts.

Lineker gave up his family home in Sunningdale, Berkshire, after his marriage to Michelle ended in August 2006.

Since meeting, the couple have been on holiday together in Barbados, Miami, Rome and Vienna.

Danielle previously dated ex-Coventry City player Adam Willis, father of her daughter Ella, six.
