Amy Winehouse orders 48 bottles of Jack Daniel's whiskey at Bestival - but still manages to perform

Updated 21:53pm on 7 Sep 2008

Amy Winehouse is becoming better known for her non-appearances rather than her performances.

But this weekend she managed to make it the Bestival festival in the Isle of Wight.

Even so organisers were taking no chances and made contingency plans after the troubled singer ordered an incredible 48 bottles of Jack Daniel's whisky.

But she was on stage on Saturday evening, as planned, where she fondled her chest during the performance.

A Bestival source told the Sun newspaper that they had feared she would be unable to perform

With Amy’s record this can mean failure to perform or giving a shambolic performance.

'Whiskey is better than heroin — but not 48 bottles of the stuff.'

Festival organisers were said to be 'shocked' at the 24-year-old's order for two crates of the 40 per cent alcohol.

The source added: 'Everyone is really excited about getting Amy to perform here, and naturally there are now fears she is planning something wild.'

Winehouse is already facing a legal challenge after not turning up to the Rock En Seine festival in Paris last month.

Organisers were furious when the Rehab singer pulled out two hours before she was due to headline the concert after apparently collapsing at home due to ill health.

In June it emerged that she has developed the chronic lung disease emphysema after she collapsed and was rushed to hospital.

About 40,000 festival-goers were expected to attend Bestival at Robin Hill Country Park in Newport, Isle of Wight, this weekend despite the wet weather conditions.

Acts My Bloody Valentine and Underworld were headlining the festival on Friday and today, respectively. Will Young was also billed to perform.
