Those bee-stung lips helped to make her one of the pin-ups of the Sixties and Seventies.

So Britt Ekland can be forgiven for trying to recapture the look of her heyday.

The 65-year-old appears to have opted for collagen implants - but rather overdone it and ended up with the dreaded 'trout pout'.

Without her make-up she was virtually unrecognisable from her days as a Bond girl, starring alongside Roger Moore in 1974's The Man With the Golden Gun.

Wearing sunglasses despite the gloomy weather, the actress was pictured walking her dog in Edinburgh, where she recently starred in her own Fringe show, Britt on Britt, and talked openly of her turbulent love life.

She has also been refreshingly frank on the subject of the cosmetic surgeon's art.

'I think it's wonderful,' she said recently. 'But there should be an age limit. It should be absolutely forbidden for anyone under 40.

'It's for older people - to lift the chin here and take a couple of crow's feet out there -not for young people who want to be bigger and plumper or thinner.

Of course, it's fatal when actresses use Botox. I remember seeing Cold Mountain and it really looked to me like Nicole Kidman had been using it.

'Her face was neither sad nor glad - nor anything. She was just like a painted doll. I thought, 'Why would she do that?'.'

Without admitting she has had any recent cosmetic work, a spokesman for Miss Ekland said: 'Of course she has had surgery. She has always been very open it and never kept it a secret.'

In her younger days the Swedish actress romanced stars including Warren Beatty and Rod Stewart.

In 1964 she married Peter Sellers, when she was 20 and he 38.
