Singer Natasha Bedingfield is engaged to her American boyfriend, businessman Matthew Robinson.

The 26-year-old broke the news to the gathered press at a party to celebrate Calvin Klein's 40th anniversary during New York fashion week.

'It just happened,' she told People magazine on the red carpet. 'But I am so excited, and it happened in New York. And I want to share it with the world.'

She and Robinson, who have been dating for two years, have not started making wedding plans yet.

'We haven't thought about a date,' said Natasha, fittingly dressed in bridal white. 'We're just celebrating.'   

The Unwritten singer, who is sporting a huge glittering diamond ring on her wedding finger, has been busy professionally as well as personally in the last few days.

She appeared at Fashion Rocks on Friday and teamed up with Mariah Carey and Beyonc to sing Just Stand Up, aired during the live television broadcast of the Stand Up For Cancer charity show.

Asked how she feels abut her engagement she added: 'I'm the luckiest girl in the world.'

Bedingfield recently spoke about her relationship to Us magazine.

'What should I say about him?' she said. 'I'm in love!

'He's a businessman and it really is a good balance for my career because he's always a solid rock that I just feel very comfortable with, and I feel very loved.

'I was single for a long, long time and I kind of went down kicking and screaming because I liked my single-ness, but he was someone definitely worth giving up being single for.'
