With a stunning new fiancé 18 years his junior you might think Gary Lineker has plenty to smile about.

Especially considering he doesn't have to work tonight - the England v Croatia match is not being shown on terrestrial TV for the first time since the 1960s.

But the prospect of not having to host a Match Of The Day programme on the crucial World Cup qualifier didn't do that much for his mood.

The 47-year-old looked decidedly glum as he walked back to his car with 29-year-old underwear model Danielle, who he started dating just over a year ago.

Perhaps he is annoyed at missing out on the fee he would have picked up had the BBC screened the match or shown the highlights. Although with an estimated £30 million in the bank he isn't short of cash.

When pictured the pair had just enjoyed an intimate lunch at Ziani Restaurant in west London.

Lineker and Danielle, a former air hostess who has a six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, recently moved into a £2.6million mansion in Surrey with six bedrooms and five bathrooms.

Since Lineker met the La Senza model on a blind date the couple have holidayed in Miami, Barbados, Rome and Vienna.

In 2006 Lineker's wife Michelle was granted a divorce from the former England striker. The couple had been married for 20 years and had four sons together.
