The Carla and Zeta show

Updated 14:15pm on 23 Sep 2008

Whether they were swapping fashion tips or discussing life with their older men, two of the world's most glamorous women had plenty to talk about at an awards ceremony last night.

The younger wives club: Carla Bruni with Nicolas Sarkozy and Michael Douglas

Welsh-born actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, 38, and model and singer Carla Bruni, 40, looked deep in conversation at the Elie Wiesel Foundation Humanitarian Awards Dinner in New York.

Zeta-Jones was joined by her Oscar-winning actor husband Michael Douglas, 63, who spoke at the event. Bruni's husband, French president Nicolas Sarkozy, 53, was honoured with the 2008 World Statesman Award for his global efforts to support war-torn countries.

Glamorous: Catherine Zeta-Jones

This raises the age-old question of whether it is better to rule Europe or America. Carla Bruni has shown how easily and how quickly it is to conquer Old Europe. Now Catherine Zeta-Jones has emerged from her palace in America to see if the grass is greener on the other side of the Herring Pond.
