Mel B's terror as police arrest airport stalker

Updated 12:42pm on 13 Oct 2008

Mel B had a terrifying moment as a "crazed" man threatened to stab her husband when the couple arrived in the UK.

The ex-Spice Girl's ordeal began soon after she landed at Heathrow yesterday from her LA home with husband Stephen Belafonte and 18-month-old daughter Angel Iris.

Scary: Mel B with Belafonte

A man started abusing the paparazzi waiting outside the arrivals hall, prompting Belafonte to step in. But the man then turned on Mel's 33-year-old husband.

An onlooker described the man as " going crazy ", according to gossip website TMZ, before screaming: "I'll get a knife and stab you." The former Scary Spice could only look on in tears as the two men scuffled before photographers intervened and called police.

A Met spokeswoman said today: "It is alleged a man approached a man and a woman and was abusive. The 22-year-old was arrested for threatening behaviour.".

Mel's spokeswoman confirmed the singer's film director husband felt compelled to act after he saw the man giving the photographers a hard time. She said: "It was quite a scary situation but Mel and Stephen and the baby are fine."

Mel, 33, is in the UK to co-present Wednesday night's Mobo awards at Wembley Arena.
