First a knife, now Katy stirs up row holding a spoon

Updated 15:51pm on 27 Oct 2008

Pop star Katy Perry today denied making fun of her controversial “knife pose” picture.

The I Kissed A Girl singer came under fire when an image of her wielding a 3in flick knife leaked on the internet hours after Joseph Lappin, 16, was stabbed to death.

But instead of apologising, Perry, 23, appeared to mock angered relatives by posing with a spoon, above the caption: “But I do condone eating ice cream with a very large spoon.”

New pose: the singer is accused of poking fun at the row

Today her spokesman said the picture — posted from a hotel room in Tokyo — predated the storm over last week's knife image.

He said: “Katy Perry is against all violence. The photo in question was taken in 2005 and is in no way related to the current events in the UK.”

It came after the father of murdered schoolboy Damilola Taylor reacted with fury at the apparent gaffe.

Richard Taylor, 59, whose son Damilola, 10, was stabbed in the leg with a broken bottle eight years ago, said: “It would have been better for her to have apologised.”

Perry is due to host the MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool next month.

Victims' families today called for her to be dumped from the show.

The new photo looks like a mug shot. The people that were behind it should be out of work. Its not creative and it just makes Katy Perry look
gormless which I am stating to think she is. I guess times will be harder soon so real talent will hopefully emerge.
