This is but a small selection of the outfits worn by singer Katy Perry as she hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards.

She changed dresses 13 times at the celebrations in Liverpool. Coming off stage she said: "I'm still breathing heavily because of the 12 costume changes - I'll have the 13th for the afterparty."

Girl power: Katy's 13 costumes included a pink romper suit emblazoned with her name and dress in the shape of a carousel

Her costumes overshadowed bigger names at the event, who included Beyoncé, Pink and Leona Lewis.

Perry, 23, started dressed as an American footballer as she performed her hit I Kissed A Girl. She sang another song from the middle of a giant banana.

But a dress printed with Barack Obama's face tapped into the theme of the night, with mention of the US president-elect generating the loudest cheers among the audience of 10,000. Sir Paul McCartney, who was presented with the Ultimate Legend award, thanked everyone who voted for Mr Obama.

Yawn, more award ceremonies, god it's all become so boring. There must be an awards show for each month in the year now.
