Fashion’s awards for rips and lost knickers...not quite as glam as it should have been

Updated 12:22pm on 26 Nov 2008

It was supposed to be a night to celebrate the great and good of the fashion world.

Hole-ing Stone: Mick Jagger's daughter Jade

So it was a surprise to see so many faux pas in a single evening. There were rips in dresses and tights, plasters on knees, badly kept feet and even a rogue pair of knickers.

Well-dressed: Claudia with plaster dressings

The British Fashion Council Awards at the Royal Horticultural Halls in Westminster attracted some of the biggest names in the business last night.

Unfortunately, it also attracted some of the biggest clangers, starting with an enormous hole in Jade Jagger's fishnet tights.

Then Claudia Schiffer revealed two great big plasters on her knee — the next big thing perhaps? Meg Mathews was halfway along the street before she realised half of her dress wasn't following her — a large strip of it having been torn off.

Pixie Geldof looked as if she had slaughtered Big Bird from Sesame Street, dyed his feathers grey and draped the poor creature over her back.

There were a few who emerged with some credit though, so it's only fair to mention Alice Dellal, Alexa Chung and Henry Holland, who all managed to look both glam and cool. The after-party was held at Jalouse in Hanover Square, but not all guests made it inside unscathed.

X Factor choreographer Brian Friedman found himself playing the “don't you know who I am?” card when he apparently tried to jump the queue. But door staff were having none of it and made him wait outside with everyone else. He eventually got in, but sulked off early, complaining he had “an early start in the morning”.

* Mystery surrounds an unidentified garment that slipped off Sadie Frost's lap as she arrived at the British Fashion Council Awards.

Commando? Sadie arrives at the awards

Some cheeky onlookers suggested it was Sadie's knickers that had fallen to the ground — perhaps after a last-minute decision in her car to go commando for the evening.

Heading home: Sadie after the celebrations

But it was not established exactly what the scrap of material was, and Sadie, 43, looking great in a black minidress, scampered off, leaving her hairdresser pal James Brown to pick it up and hand it to their driver

Sadie Frost is way past her clubbing days. it's embarassing to see her like that in a dress meant for someone half her age. She's old and can't keep up anymore. Look at her. She's ready for her nana nap.

Victoria, you took the words right out of my mouth. I was thinking exactly the same thing as I scrolled down to see your comment.

Sadie Frost is far too old to be wearing a dress that short!
