Jude Law was celebrating his 36th birthday today playing happy families with his ex-wife Sadie Frost and their children in Brazil.

Five years after they divorced, the pair have been taking a Christmas break together.
From their hotel base in Rio de Janeiro, they travelled more than 90 miles to the coastal resort of Angra dos Reis.

There they took a boat trip with their children, Rafferty, 12, Iris, eight, and Rudy, six.

The end-of-year holiday follows recent rumours of rekindled romance between Jude, best known for hit films including Cold Mountain and The Talented Mr Ripley, and Sadie, who at 43 is seven years his senior.

While relations between the pair have not always been friendly, Law is said to have been supportive of Frost during recent problems with her fashion business Frost French.

At the Evening Standard Theatre Awards at the Royal Opera House last month, they chatted warmly. The new year will see Frost following her former husband's lead with a return to the stage. After a gap of 24 years, she will star in a one-woman show, Touched ... For The Very First Time at the Trafalgar Studios in February.

Law, meanwhile, is to tackle meatier fare. In May, he will make his debut as Hamlet for the Donmar Warehouse season in the West End.

His recent film work has included playing Dr Watson in Guy Ritchie's adaptation of Sherlock Holmes alongside Robert Downey Jr. He is also one of three actors — with Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell — taking the place of the late Heath Ledger in Terry Gilliam's film The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus.

Am glad Sadie Frost is returning to acting, I also thought she was a great actress, quirky & different and a shame to have not seen her in anything for so long, look forward to her return!

They've taken vacations together with the kids before - last year it was Cuba, the year before South Africa - and always there is speculation they are "rekindling." How unimaginative. The two of them are obviously friends and collaborate together about the kids all the time. This is not a new thing. I guess it's hard for people to get their heads around the fact that two divorced parents can behave like, well, adults and not have animosity or backstabbing at each other all the time. Kudos to them.
