Travoltas' final journey with tragic son's ashes

Updated 14:40pm on 6 Jan 2009

John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston flew home last night to bury their son's ashes after he died at their Caribbean holiday home. The body of 16-year-old Jett Travolta was cremated following yesterday's autopsy in the Bahamas. The final chapter in the tragedy comes after pathologists ruled that the teenager, said to suffer from rare illness Kawasaki syndrome, died as a result of a seizure at the family's holiday home last Friday.

Kiss of life: Travolta with Jett, who died on Friday

Confusion remained over the boy's final hours after it was revealed that Jett's body showed no sign of any head trauma, despite police saying he had hit his head on the bath after collapsing. There was further confusion when a hearse drove to the island airport where two jets waited on the tarmac - a move later revealed to have been a ruse.

Sad day: Travolta's private jet is prepared for take-off

Travolta, 54, and Preston, 46, who also have an eight-year-old daughter, Ella, flew home to Ocala, Florida, with the ashes and the Hollywood star was believed to have piloted the private jet. Bahamas police chief Reginald Ferguson said the autopsy findings were unlikely to be released because "there is nothing criminal about the situation". It emerged last night that Travolta had tried to give his son the kiss of life and the boy may have died in his arms before a doctor arrived.
