            Slumdog Millionaire

Success Story: Slumdog Millionaire has been nominated for the best movie title and its director Danny Boyle is in the running for best director

Kate Winslet has been nominated for a best actress Oscar for her role in The Reader today, while British film Slumdog Millionaire is in the running for best movie.

Rags-to-riches tale Slumdog has had 10 nominations in categories including adapted screenplay, cinematography and sound editing, as well as two original song nominations.

Other best picture nominees include Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which scooped 13 Academy Awards nominations.

The late Heath Ledger was given a supporting actor nomination for Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight.

Britons Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) and Stephen Daldry (The Reader) were nominated for best director Oscars while Mike Leigh received a best screenplay nomination for Happy-Go-Lucky.
