Chris Brown handed himself over to police for an alleged "domestic violence felony", which saw him and girlfriend Rihanna pull out of their performance at the Grammys. The rapper, 19, and his 20-year-old girlfriend were due to perform at the ceremony last night but cancelled after Chris was charged by cops.

What's up, Chris? Rihanna and Chris Brown at the pre-Grammys party before the disturbance

He arrived at an LA police station in a black people carrier, lying down on the back seat. While police did not name the victim of his alleged assault, it is being widely claimed in the US that it was Rihanna herself.

The couple had been at a pre-Grammys party, and had left together in a car shortly before the incident took place.

The LAPD said the rapper and a woman got into an argument while sitting in a parked car in the city's Hancock Park neighbourhood at around 12:30am yesterday. A spokesman said:

"After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated. The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker."

The police received a 911 call reporting the disturbance, and when officers arrived they found the victim, but Chris had already left the scene. He was charged with making threats and released on $50,000 bail.
