Sir Bob Geldof was completely in the dark about his daughter Peaches divorce from Max Drummey - and only found out through the internet. Peaches, 19, released a statement on Saturday to announce that her 186-day marriage to the 24-year-old rocker was over.

But she kept the news from her family and they only found out when her older sister Fifi spotted the news on a gossip website. She then had to frantically phone Peaches to find out if it was true.

Our source said: "Peaches released a statement through her PR team but hadn't even told anyone in her family. There were a frantic few phone calls made as they tried to find out what was going on.

"Although it's not exactly how he would have liked to have found out, Bob is pleased the marriage is over, as he never approved."

Sir Bob, who was at the Berlin Film Festival last night, was furious when the young couple tied the knot without his knowledge in Las Vegas in August. The Eye revealed last week that Peaches had started to look for a home in New York without Max.

The source added: "The couple split over Christmas and Max moved out of their place several weeks ago, with Peaches moving a female pal in.

"They had a series of blazing rows in December, mainly over Peaches' constant partying. His friends never took to her, which meant they spent less and less time going out together. Most of his stuff had been moved out of their apartment by the beginning of January, although she begged him to stay living there as plutonic friends so she wouldn' t have t o announce a separation."

Peaches statement said the couple came to a "mutual agreement" af ter " much soul -searching". I t added: " Our parting is amicable and both of us still respect and care about each other immensely.

"There were no other people involved."

Peaches has since flown to Mexico.
