Johnny Vaughan says Chris Martin is a girl

Updated 14:06pm on 19 Feb 2009

Coldplay were sensationally snubbed at the Brits last night - and then found themselves on the wrong side of Johnny Vaughan's acid tongue. The radio presenter launched a scathing attack on Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, saying that he should be nominated for best female artist.

Harsh words: Johnny Vaughan didn't mince his words questioning Chris Martin's manhood

We caught the Capital FM host's comments as he chatted to James Morrison in the smoking area of The Brit Awards ceremony last night.

Our spy said: "He was outside having a cigarette with James and [James's] girlfriend Gill. Someone then told James that he looked like Chris Martin, at which point Johnny said, 'James has a c**k. Chris should be up for best female artist'.

"After Johnny made the comment, James was in a fit of giggles and both of them started to crack up laughing."

James was up for best british male but was pipped to the post by Paul Weller.

It's not the first time James has been compared to the Coldplay singer, which may explain why he jokingly told the London Lite's The Eye to "f**k off" when suggesting he looked like Gwyneth Paltrow's husband.

Guests at the bash at Earl's Court were treated to a tatin of caramelised beetroot and shallots with goats cheese, followed by duck with vegetables and a cheese board. The likes of Girls Aloud, Gabriella Cilmi, Lady GaGa and Jason Orange from Take That headed to Universal's after party at Claridge's in Mayfair.

I was listening to Johnnys radio show yesterday morning, the whole thing was a joke sarted by a sour Liam Gallagher as Oasis had not been nominated for any awards, I doubt very much it was a 'scathing attack'
