Boyfriend 'bit ear and tried to choke Rihanna in car attack'
Last updated at 12:30pm on 06.03.09Chris Brown has appeared in court over an alleged attack on his girlfriend Rihanna. The R&B singer is charged with assault and making criminal threats. His case was adjourned by the Los Angeles court until next month and he remains free on £35,000 bail.

The felony complaint identifies Brown's alleged victim only as "Robyn F." Umbrella singer Rihanna's real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. Her lawyer, Donald Etra, declined to say whether Rihanna, 21, would testify against Brown, or whether the couple had reunited, as some reports claim. If Brown is convicted, the possible sentence ranges from probation to four years in prison. According to a police affidavit, Brown, 19, and Rihanna got into a fight in the early hours of 8 February after she found a text from another woman on his mobile as they were driving.
Brown stopped his car and tried to push Rihanna out, but she was wearing her seatbelt, Los Angeles detective De Shon Andrews wrote.
The affadavit states Brown continued driving while hitting the singer, and that he bit her ear. Andrews also states that Brown tried to choke Rihanna, who at one point is said to have tried to gouge at his eyes.
