Jade goes home to die

Updated 11:48am on 11 Mar 2009

Jade Goody today left the Royal Marsden Hospital after being allowed to go home to die.

The cancer-stricken reality TV star, who has been given just days to live, left the hospital in Chelsea by ambulance this morning. With her was husband Jack Tweed and a nurse to keep her pain under control on the journey to her Essex home.

Holding hands: husband Jack Tweed comforts cancer-stricken Jade as she is wheeled out of the Royal Marsden today

Goody, 27, has been desperate to spend what remaining time she has at home with Tweed, 21, and her sons Bobby, five, and four-year-old Freddie.

Her spokesman Max Clifford said today she was thrilled that she was allowed to go home but nurses would still be keeping a watchful eye on her.

He said: “It's what she's been wanting, to be near her boys, Jack and other loved ones in the time she has left. She will be settled in at home and for the first few days she will be visited by staff from the Royal Marsden who will be popping in and out to make sure the local Macmillan nurses know what needs to be done. They will show them exactly what to do to keep the epidural at the right levels so they can take over full-time.

“And then hopefully that will be that. Everyone just wants to make it as smooth a transaction as possible for her so she has as good a quality of life in the time that she has left and this is the best way to do that.”

Goody was diagnosed with cervical cancer last summer and the disease has spread through her body. After unsuccessful chemotherapy treatment she was told she had just weeks to live, upon which news Tweed proposed. The couple married last month. Footage of her wedding airs tomorrow on Living TV.

I hope that you will be comforted in the time that you have left. It seems so unfair that this is happening to you, at your age, with children too...but you have never really moaned about it, (just like you have never moaned about your upbringing) you have instead, strived to make a better life for your lovely boys.

God bless!
